Intermediate/advanced fly tying with Jan Kurahara

Learn advanced fly patterns and tying techniques.  Two flies will be tied each session, and will include dries, nymphs, and emergers.  The class will emphasize advanced techniques including: thread control (tension and twist), selection and handling of materials, dubbing techniques, how to prepare and tie in different materials, and proper fly proportions.

The following flies will be tied:

Bird's Nest
PMD Paradun
Jan's PT Nymph
Quigley Cripple
Burk's Hare's Ear nymph
George's Bullet Head Caddis
Bead Head Western Coachman
Deer Hair Spider

These patterns are among the most effective patterns for taking trout in fast water, flat water, and lakes.

While we encourage you to take all four classes, you need not take the whole series.  Cost is $25 per person per session.

Classes will be held at Malibu Fish N' Tackle from 6:30 pm to 9 pm four Thursday nights:

Bring fly tying vise, tools, thread, hooks, and tying materials. Materials you don't have will be provided.

Jan Kurahara, with over 40 years of fly fishing experience, has taught fly tying for more than 15 years at clubs and shops in Northern California.
